What You're Paying For

What actually drives
the cost.

Most of a Varanasi trip is spent at the river, which is free. The cost comes from where you sleep, how you move, when you travel and how much you add on. Here is the honest breakdown.

  • Hotel tier — easily the biggest lever. A clean 3-star near the ghats costs a fraction of a 5-star, and most of your trip is spent out at the river anyway.
  • Season — winter (Oct–Mar) is peak; festival windows like Dev Deepawali and Mahashivratri push hotels and cabs up sharply for a few days.
  • Group size — sharing a room and a cab across more people lowers the per-head cost; solo travel always carries the highest per-person rate.
  • Transport — a private AC cab for transfers, ghats and any Ayodhya/Prayagraj legs adds a clear daily line, but saves a lot of friction.
  • Scope — Varanasi alone is the lightest trip; adding Ayodhya or Prayagraj means more road distance, longer cab days and an extra night or two.
  • Inclusions — breakfast-only vs full board, special-aarti seating, and guided darshan assistance all shift the final figure.

Honest Seasonal Note

When prices rise,
and when they ease.

October to March is the comfortable-weather peak — expect firmer hotel rates, especially on weekends. The biggest spikes are the short festival windows: Dev Deepawali (the most expensive few days of the year on the riverfront), Mahashivratri, and major snan days, when hotels and cabs both jump.

Monsoon (Jul–Sep) and the summer months (Apr–Jun) are quieter and usually softer on price, though the heat is real in summer. If you are flexible, travelling mid-week and just outside a festival can meaningfully lower your cost. We will always tell you honestly if your dates land in a peak — and what the difference looks like.
